What’s New With The Samsung Focus
On November 8th, 2010 the Samsung Focus will be released in the United States by AT&T. This beautiful new smartphone will run Windows Mobile 7. Its release is designed to compete for market share with the iPhone, and the many Android phones that are currently on the market. The retail price is set at $199.99 with purchase of a 2 year contract with AT&T.
AT&T will be providing their carrier applications preinstalled on the Samsung Focus. Some of the better AT&T applications include AT&T Navigator, AT&T U-Verse Mobile and AT&T Radio. Of these three, the most exciting application is AT&T U-Verse Mobile. This wonderful application allows users to download TV shows to their mobile phones through Wi-Fi. It is a very useful application that turns the Samsung Focus into something more than the ordinary smartphone, and allows it to become a truly extraordinary multimedia device.
The Samsung Focus has some wonderful hardware that delivers extraordinary performance. The most brilliant piece of equipment on the Focus is the 4-inch, Super AMOLED screen. The AMOLED screen is enriched with hyper saturated colors that make up for one of the most brilliant pictures in the smart phone market. The Samsung Focus case comes in at 4.9 x 2.5 x 0.4 inches. The weight is only 4.2 ounces, so this phone is extremely easy to slip into almost any pocket. The black plastic rear has a smooth display but it’s very susceptible to unwanted fingerprints. The Samsung Focus’s hardware allows it to be used anywhere in the world, including worldwide 3G networks. It also features 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi capabilities. Testing indicates that the download speed with the Focus through the Wi-Fi is in the neighborhood of 1.5 Mbps, although this phone does not have the capability to be used as a modem for a laptop or PC.
The voice quality of the Samsung Focus is quite good. The volume is decent, although may be a little quiet for those with less than perfect hearing. The noise cancellation ability of the microphone is truly wonderful, blocking out the sound background sounds of city traffic completely. The speakerphone is marvelous, with excellent volume and good transmissions. Bluetooth capabilities are great on this phone as it can instantly connect any headsets. The talk time is nearly six hours, which is really quite remarkable for such a tiny phone that houses tiny Samsung Focus batteries.
One of the most exciting factors about this phone is the expandable memory. The Focus is the first Windows 7 Phone that accepts expandable memory. It will accept MicroSD cards of up to 32 GB, which turns this into a 40 GB phone when combined with the 8GB that are already built into the phone. However, every time the memory card is removed or changed, the Focus will reset to its factory settings. This means that once the memory has been installed, it is quite a hassle to remove it. However, it is quite easy to synch this phone with a PC through Wi-Fi or a USB cable, which is part of the Samsung Focus accessories.
